The Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Local Training and Development (LTD) is currently seeking a Training Supervisor to oversee our Leadership Development Program that works with the 120 local departments of social services. This position is responsible for supervising the training and professional development initiatives dedicated to the foundational and ongoing leadership development of supervisors, managers, and local agency leadership, in order to support the implementation of effective practices to meet organizational objectives. This position is critical in improving the local agency’s ability to develop and retain a highly proficient workforce and will provide direct support to the agency’s efforts to offer a comprehensive onboarding for Local Department of Social Services (LDSS) leaders, development of new and innovative training and development opportunities for LDSS leaders, and coordination with other divisions (LES, HR, Finance, etc.) to ensure a clear pathway to success, through training, is laid out for new and existing LDSS leaders.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Local Training and Development and supports the Division Director’s vision to build and sustain leadership development programs that contribute to LDSS workforce improvement and retention.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of leadership, management, and organizational development is required, with an emphasis on state or local government.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver training and plan, develop, coordinate, and supervise comprehensive training and development programs on a large scale, as well as monitor and coach others on presentation skills (such as SMEs and adjunct trainers).
- An intermediate, to advanced, level of technological ability, with an emphasis on curriculum design and presentation software, is required.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and schedule own work and the work of others and manage the day-to-day needs of assigned programs.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service and promote collaboration and cooperation between executives, management, peers, partners, and customers.
- Ability to travel throughout the state; adhere to state travel reimbursement guidelines; adjust to the changing needs of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply agency and division policies and procedures.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in a supervisory role in a professional setting, with state/local government experience a plus.
- Certifications and/or other professional credentials in the areas of leadership, adult education and training, and/or organizational development.
- Certification as a practitioner of Organizational Development, Leadership Development, Mediation, MBTI, and/or other types of emotional intelligence assessments.
- Experience in the social services work environment, at a local or state level.
