Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services’ (DBHDS) Finance and Administrative Services division is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Federal Grants Accountant. This position will assist the Federal Grants Manager in the submission of federal grants reports, recording transactions and reporting the awards to the respective federal authorities, and is responsible for recording and reporting federal grant activity in accordance with federal and state guidelines and the Cash Management Improvement Act; ensuring all federal grant documentation is properly organized; working with the Federal Grants Manager to plan and prepare for federal reviews as well as coordinating with the Federal Grants Manager regarding the preparation of grant reports and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards.

This position is also responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly reports for assigned grants and the submission to program managers of monthly grant reviews. Additionally, the position conducts periodic assessments, with program staff, of potential federal grants the agency is eligible for and works to ensure that federal revenues and awards are reconciled. The position will also work, under the direction of management, to complete special reports on federal grant budgets and expenditures upon request and will assist with monthly grant reporting to the department’s executive team. Additional responsibilities include reporting/tracking special grants received through contracts with other agencies; answering questions and assisting with APA and federal reviewer audits; identifying recommendations for process improvements; providing support to update federal grant six-year revenue projections; ensuring reporting compliance requirements are met; ensuring ARMICS process testing is documented and completed annually; ensuring budget entries are posted into FMS and Cardinal; and reviewing and organizing file documentation related to each grant.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with federal grant accounting. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting policies and procedures. Knowledge of governmental (state/federal) financial management and reporting requirements. Ability to prepare reports and use spreadsheets. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Experience using electronic systems to record information in various systems. Must have excellent report design capabilities. Knowledge of government funding from multiple revenue sources.
