Job Duties

Summer Forestry Internship Program - The Virginia Department of Forestry has an exciting opportunity for college students in good academic standing at two-year and four-year undergraduate level programs via our 2025 Business Administration Internship.
If you enjoy the Virginia Forests and safeguarding the resources of our land — this practical experience and opportunity is for you. VDOF was established in 1914 to prevent and suppress forest fires and reforest bare lands. Since our inception, we have grown and evolved to encompass other protection and management duties:

•Assisting with tasks such preparing invoices, tracking expenses, and preparing reports.
•Assisting with special projects, from planning to execution and monitoring.
• Providing recommendations for process improvement for data systems used internally.
•Assisting with the procurement of forestry supplies and items for field and program personnel.
•Identifying areas to streamline agency administration procedures and workflows.
•Working and collaborating with administration offices such as finance, procurement, grants, budgeting, facilities management and information technology.

Minimum Qualifications

• Understanding of core business functions like finance, budgeting, data management and computer technology.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
• Eagerness to learn and contribute to various aspects of business operations.

This is an internship position; candidates may be enrolled as an undergraduate student in an accredited college or university program with related business administration coursework.

Experience in strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is strongly preferred. This internship offers a well-rounded experience in business administration, allowing you to develop a versatile skill set and make a meaningful impact on the overall success of the Virginia Department of Forestry.
Our internships aim to raise awareness of professional opportunities among students of all backgrounds.
NOTE: This is an hourly wage ($16.00/hr.) (Summer Intern) position that is approved for up -to 360 hours, the duration of the internship program from June 16, 2025-August 15, 2025.

This position will be located at our Charlottesville Headquarters. Typical hours of work will be 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday. Teleworking options are not available.
