For more than three decades, the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation, one synonymous with providing fun, entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity. Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K-12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming, which are regulated by the Lottery, benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Lottery is currently seeking a Retail Advertising Coordinator to join our Marketing Department.
The Retail Advertising Coordinator will manage the day-to-day planning, ordering, and execution of retail merchandising at 5,000+ Lottery retailers on behalf of the Brand and Advertising Team. Retail merchandising includes campaign specific support as well as on-going point-of-sale and new concepts. The Retail Advertising Coordinator maintains a close relationship with the Lottery’s headquarters Sales Department and relevant vendors. Additionally, this role will serve as a liaison to all the agency’s area sales teams including frequent travel to our customer service centers and warehouses statewide. In addition, this individual will be facilitating merchandising at independent retailers. This role will work with the Business Development team to plan and execute specialized merchandising for large corporate account retailers, including facilitating the addition of retailers to the Lottery’s affiliate program. With a keen eye for planning and detail, this role assists in tracking expenses for the retail merchandising budget to ensure that it comes in at or below budget for the fiscal year.
Retail Merchandising Program responsibilities:
• Manages the day-to-day execution of the retail merchandising program in conjunction with the Sales department by serving as the Marketing lead.
• Plans and executes the appropriate quantity ordering for retail merchandise including permanent POS, campaign specific POS, generic POS & winner awareness.
• Collaborates with internal teams to ensure the execution of retail merchandising supports organizational strategies and objectives.
• Collaborates with other internal and external partners to develop trade style and account specific merchandising solutions.
• Researches retail merchandising trends and makes recommendations/changes for potential improvements.
• Identifies opportunities for new efficiencies in our printing, shipping, and distribution processes.
Sales Team Support & Vendor Management:
• Works with the Business Development team to research, develop, and execute marketing programs with corporate retailer accounts, including management of retail accounts in the Lottery’s affiliate program.
• Maintains and updates the merchandising guide.
• Assists with the management of vendor contracts.
• Establishes delivery schedules, costs, and quantity needs with vendors.
• Recommends signage, in-store advertising, and retailer merchandising solutions to internal stakeholders.
• Attends all necessary meetings which may include monthly Area Sales Manager meetings, area meetings around the state and ad-hoc strategy committee meetings.
Retail Merchandising Budget Tracking:
• Coordinates, communicates, and facilitates the tracking of the retail merchandising budget.
• Collaborates with all cost center managers and internal teams to ensure spending is within approved budget and funds are moved between cost centers as appropriate.
• Manages equipment budget including manufacturing orders and delivery timelines.
Note - This position requires in-office work three days per week including Tuesday and Wednesday.
Minimum Qualifications
• BA in Marketing, Advertising, Business or related field.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of marketing/advertising including experience with retail merchandising.
• Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proven ability to effectively execute strong retail merchandising programs.
• Proven ability to manage vendor contracts.
• Proven experience managing a purchasing budget.
• Proven experience procuring merchandise for multiple retail locations.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels in many different departments within the Lottery and with external stakeholders.
• Ability to work within tight timelines.
• Ability to manage multiple projects without missing deadlines.
• Ability to utilize vendor resources to develop cohesive and effective campaigns.
• Ability to produce advertising materials with 100% accuracy.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
