Job Duties

To provide a full array of high-quality, individualized acute psychiatric and psychosocial inpatient services that, in partnership with the services of other providers, help improve the lives of Virginia’s children most in need of intensive services and their families. To participate in building statewide capacity in behavioral healthcare services by providing training opportunities for mental health and human service providers and students in partnership with colleges, universities, and community agencies throughout central and western Virginia. To provide, in partnership with other mental health and child-serving agencies and providers, guidance and expertise that informs the continuing development of Virginia’s system of mental health care for children and adolescents.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of human growth, child development, and the family system.
• Knowledge of positive behavior management and behavior motivation techniques.
• Specialized knowledge in principles and techniques of group facilitation, fostering positive intrapersonal relationships, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to assess, plan, conduct, and document active treatment interventions for children and adolescents using multi-modal techniques, and ability to adapt activities and interventions to varying patient needs.
• Ability to evaluate and report children’s progress to other clinical team members including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and direct care staff.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor Degree
Related Certification and / or License QMHP-C
Advanced Training or Experience working with Children and Adolescents and / or Psychiatric Patients
