Job Duties

Virginia Tax is seeking to hire multiple Collections Representatives to work in our Collections Unit to ensure compliance and proper resolution of delinquent tax liabilities of businesses and individuals in a fair and equitable manner as well as provide quality service to all customers.

The Collections Representatives will ensure compliance, verify tax liability as well as clarify tax laws and resolve cases through in-bound telephone calls in a production-oriented call center environment. These positions will assist taxpayers, research accounts utilizing an automated collection and case management system and ensures compliance through the use of administrative legal collection actions such as lien releases, lien adjustments, and setting up official payment plans.

These positions may progress from individual income tax to business taxes with an opportunity for in-person collections field work.

These positions are located at our central office in Richmond, VA. and they are hybrid positions with 2 telework days and 3 days in the office. For office days, the position can report to our Richmond, Danville or Norfolk, VA office locations.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is commensurate with experience up to $44,192.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in call centers and/or customer service


Experience resolving problems in adversarial situations


Microsoft Office experience to include basic troubleshooting of common computer software programs

Basic math and the ability to analyze financial information through researching accounts to determine the appropriate course of action for collecting in a fast-paced, high volume call center environment

Ability to effectively communicate to include written communication with customers in a professional, courteous and tactful manner

Experience researching accounts utilizing an automated collection, accounting or case management system in a fast-paced call center environment

Additional Considerations

Basic knowledge of Virginia State tax laws, rules and regulations including knowledge of forms, filing requirements, legislative updates and legal collection techniques such as third party liens and memorandums of lien

Prefer progressive work experience in collections and or sales in a fast-paced call center environment
