Job Duties
Norfolk State University, a NCAA Division I institution, is seeking applicants for an Associate Athletics Director. This candidate will assist with the management of the Department of Athletics facilities, game and event operations, strategic partnerships, and other administrative related tasks. The position will report directly to the Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Operations, Facilities & Events.
The Director of Facilities, Operations, and Events (FOE) is responsible for the oversight of all facility operations and maintenance, budgeting, day-to-day operations, game operations, special events, and external strategic partnerships. The position will have direct oversight over the Facilities and Equipment Manager, Assistant Facilities & Equipment Manager, athletics facilities staff, interns, work study and other assigned areas.
Duties include but not limited to the development of policies and procedures related to athletics facilities, equipment and events; provide analysis and evaluation of athletics facilities; coordinate operations with Facilities Planning and Management, Public Safety and other relevant staff/departments; provide oversight for all home athletic games and events; be responsible for the safe and clean environment for athletic venues; oversee contracted vendors; oversee the needs for maintenance to facilities, scoreboards, video streaming technology, sound systems and other equipment associated with facilities; recruit, hire and train student staff and oversee all of the scheduling for games and events; lead game management trainings and meetings; oversee special projects and events; and oversee strategic partnerships.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA, and MEAC rules, regulations, and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum three years’ experience in facility operations.
- Game operations in higher education in an athletics program or athletics conference office.
- Budget experience and oversight.
- Minimum three-five years of supervisory experience.
- The ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
- Experience in creating standard operating procedures and manuals.
- Experience in collegiate athletics, excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A successful criminal background check is required.
Additional Considerations
- Minimum three years’ experience working in Division I college athletics department/conference office.
- Minimum five years’ experience in facility operations or game operations in a DI/II athletics program or Division I/II athletics program with football.
