Job Duties

Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court has a deputy clerk position available for the right applicant. This position works under the direction of a supervisor and ultimately reports to the Clerk of Court. The Deputy Clerk must uphold the Oath of Office and keep the work of the Henrico J&DR District Court in the strictest of confidence. Essential Duties & Responsibilities –

Duties may include preparing detailed court documents in accordance with established guidelines; utilizing automated case management data entry and scanning systems, scheduling matters for court, preparing correspondence, preparing dockets for court; executing the Court’s instructions with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies; researching case problems; interacting professionally with the general public, attorneys and other court-related agencies; assessing court costs and receipting monies for payment; data entry to include docketing cases and noticing parties for hearings in an accurate and timely fashion; answering phones courteously and with the ability to give accurate information to callers. Qualified applicants must possess a can-do attitude, be able to meet strict deadlines, and handle a high volume of paperwork. Candidate should have proven record of reliable attendance and must maintain exceptional skill to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment while working closely with the supervisors, judges, and staff. As a public-facing member of the court’s operation, empathy and trauma-informed customer service skills are also crucial for success in this role. Excellent data entry skills and attention to detail are essential. This position may require overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Applicants should be highly detail-oriented, accurate, and possess significant knowledge, skills and ability for time management and customer service in a challenging environment. Applicant must have the ability to explain procedures in a clear and easy to understand manner, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have an advanced knowledge of office automation systems and computer software, specifically in Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Preferred applicants will have judicial system experience in the Commonwealth of Virginia, legal experience, professional office experience, customer service experience, and prior experience in a trauma-informed environment. A typing test will be performed at the interview.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: lifting up to 25 lbs, bending to retrieve files, long periods of sitting and/or standing
