Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a part-time ID Review Specialist. This is a technical role within a high-volume regulatory unit that focuses on verifying identity documents to determine applicants' eligibility for driver's licenses and ID cards. This position makes decisions about exceptions to document requirements and provides guidance to DMV staff and customers. This position requires a high level of expertise in DMV policies, state and federal laws, and document verification procedures.

Responsibilities Include:
• Reviewing and verifying identity, legal presence, Social Security, and residency documents for issuing driver’s licenses and ID cards, ensuring compliance with Virginia and federal regulations
• Assessing customer requests for exceptions to identity document requirements, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
• Clearly communicating document requirements, regulatory updates, and DMV policies to internal stakeholders, enabling effective processing and compliance
• Providing guidance to DMV customer service centers, assisting with complex inquiries related to document verification and exceptions
• Participating in and complete mandatory DMV training programs, including fraud detection and policy updates, to maintain expertise in document verification and compliance

This position will report in-person to our Headquarters Office in Richmond with limited telework options available after the initial 6-month training period. 

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to research, interpret, and apply laws and regulations, and to analyze documents for authenticity and compliance
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal staff, customers, and federal agencies
• Ability to resolve document discrepancies and eligibility issues within a regulatory framework
• Proficient in online application systems and Microsoft Office for managing data and reporting
• Experience providing customer support and resolving identity verification issues
• Demonstrated success managing high-volume tasks independently, ensuring accuracy in document verification
• Experience using data entry and document management systems to accurately track, store, and process sensitive information

Additional Considerations

• In-depth knowledge of document authentication and verification techniques, especially for identity and residency documents
• Experience working in a governmental or public-facing regulatory environment
• Experience in processing and verifying immigration-related documents
