The VDOT Bristol District Traffic Engineering Section is excited to announce an opportunity for a Traffic Engineer. In this role, you will provide technical advice, guidance, and training across assigned engineering program areas. You will prepare analyses, reports, and recommendations based on engineering assessments, and offer engineering support and consultation within your program area. Additionally, you will effectively manage assigned projects to ensure timely and accurate completion. This role also involves regular communication with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens, and the FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs.

Minimum Qualifications
• Experience designing plans for traffic control devices, incorporating traffic engineering
requirements into roadway plans and making recommendations for plan changes.
• Experience in conducting traffic engineering studies involving traffic operations, traffic
control devices, and roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity issues.
• Experience collecting and analyzing traffic related data.
• Considerable experience gathering data, developing recommendations and making
presentations.
• Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices and standards.
• Skilled in the use of computers and software applications to include traffic engineering and design software such as CADD, MicroStation, Highway Capacity Software, Synchro,
CORSIM, SYDRA, etc.
Additional Considerations
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field
desired.
• Professional Engineer License or EIT
• Knowledge or experience in highway construction and maintenance operations.
• Experience working with engineering consultants on projects.
• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
