The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is currently searching for an ITS Maintenance Specialist to ensure adequate condition and availability of ITS assets; oversee ITS maintenance program activities and ensure proper execution of activities in accordance with performance criteria. Identify, assess and direct life cycle replacement and upgrade projects to include assessment of new and emerging technologies and applications; oversee and monitor field maintenance including contractor performance, and resolve utility conflicts and claims.

Core responsibilities for job & position:

Support ITS device maintenance needs through ITS program planning, technical assessments and project support activities. Provide technical assessment of field conditions to include device positioning and constructability. Provide guidance regarding the overall design of projects to improve existing equipment operation and reliability. Prepare bid items and quantities, assist with design drawings and specifications for plan development as well as RFI's, NDCs and submittals, coordinate outage responses with Contractors and Agency Stakeholders. Evaluate new and emerging technologies to ensure system stability and integration while supporting rapid change and innovation.

Identify, assess and direct field device upgrades, replacements and construction, utility project coordination. Conduct life cycle, planned obsolescence assessment of field ITS devices and infrastructure; review and coordinate construction and general utility project plans and activities; review proposed project plans to identify potential conflicts and opportunities to enhance ITS device condition and operational availability; inspect all device installations and adjustments to ensure compliance with performance and technical standards; resolve conflicts with utilities and maintenance.

Oversee, monitor, and coordinate ITS device preventative and responsive maintenance program, ensure proper prioritization and execution of preventative and corrective maintenance activities. Audit and inspect processes and procedures to ensure compliance with contract performance and technical standards and requirements, monitor activities to ensure complete adherence to all safety and security protocols and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of systems engineering processes and systems analysis.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to apply system engineering technical principles and practices to complex tasks.
• Knowledge of network configurations and IP based communication and equipment.
• Ability to communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
• Ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize multiple assignments and competing priorities.
• Knowledge of electrical, electronic systems maintenance, design and troubleshooting.

Additional Considerations

• Ability to compile and develop financial components of budgets into contracts.
• Skill in design, installation and maintenance of fiber optic communications systems.

VDOT utilizes a market-based pay program, which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
