Job Duties

The Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) is responsible for a variety of operational tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume office with frequent critical deadlines. This position requires ensuring that the court's instructions are executed accurately and that legal documents are prepared in compliance with state and local policies.

The Deputy Clerk will handle a wide range of complex clerical and financial tasks, assist in validating and ensuring the accuracy of court disposition documents, and serve as an information liaison between the court and the public. Responsibilities include receiving fines and costs, entering summonses, processing, filing, and scanning court documents.

The ideal candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills, demonstrate a high level of customer service to the public and interfacing agencies, and effectively manage competing priorities. Attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a positive can-do attitude are essential. Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent is required, with some college experience preferred. The most competitive applicants will have knowledge of the court and criminal justice system, as well as excellent clerical skills. Strong verbal and written communication abilities and prior experience in in-person customer service are essential. Candidates must be highly organized, capable of following and explaining procedures, and demonstrate a proven ability to multitask and manage time effectively. They should also be comfortable handling various financial transactions. Punctuality, reliable attendance, and a positive attitude are critical. Additionally, candidates must possess accurate data entry skills.

Physical Requirements: Lift to 30lbs, bending to retrieve files, and standing for long periods.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience: Most competitive applicants will know the court/criminal justice system. Advanced knowledge of office automation systems and computer software.
