Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking reliable, responsible, and enthusiastic students to intern with our agency!

The division internship with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice will provide students an opportunity to combine their academic studies with on-the-job training and experience while completing their education. The internship program is designed around a project-based assignment, which will support the mission of the agency and align career goals of the student.

This summer internship will take place from mid-May to mid-August.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Rising junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in an accredited university or college in good academic standing pursuing a major in business administration, public administration, information technology, human services, social services psychology, political science or a related area.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Knowledge of core functional areas related to an area within a division ( Administration & Finance, Reentry and Interventions, Placement and Program implementation, and Policy).
  • Ability to work the entire duration of the internship program (mid-May to Mid-August).
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills and demonstrated proficiency with email programs such as Gmail or Outlook.

  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
