Job Duties

The Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) is assigned work under the direction of a Supervising Deputy Clerk and ultimately reports to the Clerk of Court. The Deputy Clerk is assigned operational responsibilities in a high volume, fast paced office with frequent deadlines. This position ensures the court’s instructions are executed and legal documents are prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies while providing courteous and professional customer service support.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities – Duties include but are not limited to preparing and issuing various legal papers, forms, orders and correspondence, entering and updating data into the automated case management system, scanning documents, filing court documents, assessing and receipting fines and costs, providing customer service support in-person, over the telephone, and by email to the public, attorneys, and other court users, and fulfilling other duties as required to ensure that court instructions are executed and prepared with accuracy and in accordance with appropriate policies, judicial instructions, and/ or statutory regulations. Additional duties may include assisting the judge during court dockets, preparing dockets, and scheduling court hearings.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Qualified applicants must be able to meet frequent deadlines, be detail-oriented and organized, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, manage changing priorities, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be committed to providing excellent customer service to the public and interfacing agencies.

Additional Considerations

Most competitive applicants will have some court or office experience or a degree in a legal related field.
