If so, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts invites you to apply for the position of Youth and Family Programs Events Senior Coordinator!
We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and proactive individual to develop, coordinate, and execute engaging family-focused programs and events that connect with our collections, exhibitions, and the local community. This role also involves significant project and event coordination, community outreach, curriculum development for diverse learning environments, the supervision of staff, interns, and volunteers, and managing the administrative and budgetary aspects of family and outreach programming.
As the Youth and Family Programs Events Senior Coordinator, you will play a vital role in fostering meaningful learning experiences for visitors of all ages and extending the museum's reach into the community. Reporting to the Education Programs Manager, you will work collaboratively across departments and with community partners to create memorable and impactful Family Day events and outreach initiatives, while also leading and supporting a dedicated team and contributing to the broader educational mission of the museum.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Project Coordination: Conceptualize, plan, and execute 4 VMFA Family Day events and oversee the planning of 15-20 outreach events annually and attending outreach events as a museum representative.,
Community Engagement: Securing and nurturing community partnerships and building relationships with diverse audience groups (African American, Latin American, Chinese American, Indigenous American) to inform and enhance programming.
Team Leadership & Operational Oversight: Supervise the Family Day Assistant, interns, and volunteers, providing guidance and ensuring efficient task completion. Manage daily administrative tasks, maintain organized records, and ensure a safe environment for programs.
Educational Alignment & Resource Development: Ensure programs connect with museum collections, exhibitions, and Virginia Standards of Learning. Develop engaging educational materials for outreach events and hands-on activities for exhibitions.
Program Effectiveness & Budget Management: Utilize evaluation tools to assess program success and provide comprehensive reports. Oversee assigned budgets, ensuring responsible spending and adherence to museum policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Experience supervising instructors and volunteers.
Experience in developing and implementing educational programs and materials for children ages 5-17 and their families in a museum or educational setting.
Demonstrated ability to relate museum collections and exhibitions to educational curricula (specifically mentioning Virginia Standards of Learning is a strong indicator).
Experience in the planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of educational events.
Experience in the recruitment, training, and supervision of program staff (including contract performers, teachers, speakers, interns, and/or volunteers).
Ability to work collaboratively with other cultural arts and educational organizations.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to teach diverse youth and adult audiences.
Strong written communication skills.
Ability to use computer database systems.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
Additional Considerations
2-3 years' experience in program/event development and implementation, , or arts program administration for youth/families in a museum or educational setting.
Strong understanding of learning principles and age-appropriate educational methodologies.
Experience in planning, organizing, and facilitating interactive experiences.
Strong organizational and computer skills.
Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and creative thinking.
Supervisory experience.
Valid Driver's License.
