Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time PCT Transportation Operator who will transport and assist patients during visits to the clubhouse or trips into the community for discharge and discharge related activities; ensure that patients are securely and comfortably seated and safely fastened in the vehicle; provide assistance with boarding and deboarding as needed, ensure the patient’s comfort and safety at all times; and monitor patients’ behavior during transport to ensure they are calm and secure.

The full time PCT Transportation Operator will respond appropriately to any behavioral changes, emergencies, or medical needs that arise during transportation; utilize de-escalation techniques as needed to ensure patient safety and prevent behavioral emergencies; maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations concerning patient information and transport details; maintain the assigned vehicle to ensure that it is kept clean, operational, and safe for patient transportation while using the vehicle; and report any issues or concerns regarding the vehicle’s performance or condition to the fleet manager or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to handle sensitive, emotionally charged situations with professionalism and empathy
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with patients and staff
- Knowledge of safety protocols, including emergency procedures and CPR
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain a flexible schedule
- Demonstrates behaviors that support the Mission and Values of Western State Hospital per the WSH Values of Communication, Excellent Service to Individuals and Teamwork.
