THIS IS AN HOURLY/WAGE POSITION AND IS NOT ENTITLED TO STATE BENEFITS PACKAGE AND IS LIMITED TO NO MORE THAN 1500 HOURS IN A 12-MONTH PERIOD.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Richmond District – South Hill Residency is seeking a qualified Highway Maintenance Laborer to fill a vacancy at our Clarksville Area Headquarters.
This position will:
• Perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion.
• Perform heavy manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
VDOT is an emergency response agency, and this position is the core of this requirement, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations.

Minimum Qualifications
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light and medium equipment used for highway
maintenance and repair.
Additional Considerations
• Experience performing roadway maintenance or construction activities.
• Experience with emergency operations to include snow removal, storms, and accident
clean-up.
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Equipment Repair, Construction,
Maintenance, or related field desired.
• Skill in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance.
Special Instructions
THIS IS AN HOURLY/WAGE POSITION AND IS NOT ENTITLED TO STATE BENEFITS PACKAGE AND IS LIMITED TO NO MORE THAN 1500 HOURS IN A 12-MONTH PERIOD.
Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
If selected as a finalist, you will undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history records check required. References, work history, and DMV records verified prior to commencement of employment. Position requires unrestricted mobility, working in all types of weather, terrain and standing for long periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires approved safety shoes, which is a reimbursable expense. Ability to perform manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. Ability to obtain flagger and work zone certifications. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. H1B VISA Sponsorship is not available.
