Job Duties

The Virginia Department of the Treasury is dedicated to serving the Commonwealth by providing excellent financial management and outstanding customer service. We offer challenging and interesting work and a friendly and positive environment.

The Virginia Department of the Treasury is currently recruiting for a Financial Services Specialist in the Unclaimed Property Division. The duties will include depositing remittances, distributing correspondence to the appropriate personnel, making accounting entries, and ensuring that all tangible property is received, handled, and inventoried. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, imaging documents and adhering to retention policies, maintaining the unit’s filing system, providing excellent customer service, and serving as back up support to all positions in the unit.

Minimum Qualifications

-Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
-Ability to compile and analyze financial information, demonstrating strong analytical skills
-Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, customer service, analytical and personal computer skills
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word
-Ability to work well with other professionals at various levels

Additional Considerations

• Coursework in Accounting or business-related field or equivalent applicable experience, and/or training
• Experience with Cardinal, the Commonwealth’s accounting system is highly desirable
• Experience working with the Unclaimed Property processes and knowledge of Unclaimed Property Law
