Job Duties
The Division of Prevention and Health Promotion (DPHP) is responsible for administering state, regional, and local community-based programs specific to chronic disease prevention, tobacco prevention, oral health promotion, and injury and violence prevention. The DPHP seeks a qualified candidate to serve as the Diabetes Prevention Supervisor. The selected candidate will be responsible for grant management, including grant writing, implementation, and monitoring. This position provides oversight of contracts all geared towards promoting diabetes prevention and improving diabetes management for Virginians. This position independently performs a variety of administrative tasks including grant reporting, budget development and management, resource procurement, and stakeholder partnership management. Work tasks regularly require interpretation of policies, procedures, and processes. This position provides critical leadership for population-based diabetes prevention effort.
Supports the delivery of services agency wide by developing policies, procedures, performing research, managing grants, providing technical guidance, coordinating resources, establishing liaisons in support of service delivery and assessing the impact of new policies, procedures, regulations. Work is primarily focused more on long range than intermediate issues. Staff carries out their responsibilities following broad parameters set forth by grants, program goals and objectives with supervisory involvement limited to actions which affect other organizational units and/or programs or are politically sensitive.
This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the Strategic Approach to Diabetes grant, period ending June 29, 2028. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually (or until the grant expires) and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable experience with chronic disease prevention programs
Excellent organization and presentation skills; strong networking abilities and communication skills
Ability to act independently, manage a multi-disciplinary statewide program, develop goals, and evaluate progress
Experience with grant management; budget management; supervision of staff
