Job Duties

The purpose of this position is to help provide indirect services to geropsychiatric patients that conforms to care and treatment policies and procedures and demonstrates knowledge of the specific needs and competencies of this population. The Medical Record Clerk will validate and distribute the facility Daily Hospital Census, maintain associated statistical reports and verify census bed days for billing/reimbursement. Additionally, the Medical Record Clerk will provide clerical support for the hospital Utilization Review (UR) committee for physician certification of patient stay, appropriateness of admission, selecting random continued stay cases and preparing minutes. The Medical Record Clerk will scan and conduct quality assessment (QA) for documents that are entered into the electronic health records (EHR).

Minimum Qualifications

General office skills including use of keyboard, personal computer, document scanner, fax and copy machines, required
Ability to organize, prioritize duties and meet deadlines required
Ability to use Microsoft Office is essential with ability to generate and maintain spreadsheets and reports in Excel required
Ability to work independently and to effectively communicate with others by verbal or written means, and maintain strict confidentiality required
Attention to detail in working with figures and including the ability to identify a variety of documents to scan to electronic records, assess scanning quality and maintain paper and electronic records required

Additional Considerations

Experience in Health Information practices preferred
Knowledge or experience with auditing records for compliance with regulations preferred
Knowledge or experience working with record retention schedules preferred
Previous experience working with geropsychiatric population preferred but not required
