Job Duties

The Floodplain Program Planner provides technical assistance to local governments in the development, update, and implementation of their local floodplain management programs; supports DCR in fulfilling the responsibilities as mandated in Chapter 6 of Title 10.1 of the Code of Virginia; serves as a liaison between FEMA, local communities, and state agencies; and implements floodplain management initiatives in accordance with program and Division goals to ensure that state and federal mandates and local floodplain needs are met.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of floodplain management and resilience.
- Experience applying planning principles.
- Experience researching, interpreting, and communicating complex legal and/or technical subjects such as state and federal regulations and agency programs.
- Experience coordinating, planning, and monitoring programs.
- Skill in geoprocessing and mapping.
- Experience working effectively with minimal supervision.
- Experience with public speaking.
- Experience working with diverse groups and organizations.
- Must be a Certified Floodplain Manager, or be able to attain certification within one year of hire.
Additional Considerations
- Experience administering the Virginia Uniform State Building Codes.
- Experience administering the National Flood Insurance Program.
