Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
DJJ is currently hiring a Special Funds Accountant. This position will be responsible for the management and reporting, management of special funds, federal cash, indirect cost recovery, reconciliation of internal records to Cardinal revenue and expenditures. By performing these duties, this position provides necessary information for management to allocate resources more effectively to improve the lives of the youth in our system. The youth will have the opportunity to develop into responsible citizens which will strengthen the communities within the Commonwealth.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Working knowledge of both State and Federal laws, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and methods governing the administration of Federal and local grants.
- Ability to monitor, assess and ensure awardee complies with all terms and conditions of award.
- Ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile and evaluate financial data.
- Ability to prepare process and track grants/assistance awards and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of government officials and private organizations.
- Experience with Cardinal (PeopleSoft) financial system.
Additional Considerations
- Considerable experience and/or training in accounting, business administration, or related field.
- License as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Experience with federal grant accounting.
- Experience accessing a variety of resources and applying various computer applications to complex financial reporting.
