Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Taxation’s Office of Information Technology seeks an experienced and motivated Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Engineer to ensure the efficient operation of Virginia Tax's cloud and on-premise infrastructure. The Cloud Engineer will contribute to the development, maintenance, and security of systems by optimizing performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications. This role involves supporting cloud migrations, resolving technical issues, providing application support, performing OS administration tasks, managing network configurations, assisting with datacenter operations, ensuring continuous cloud environment support, security & compliance, while ensuring seamless system integration, all in support of the agency's mission.

 

This position is located in our Central Office in downtown Richmond, Virginia. 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. 

The anticipated hiring salary is up to $124,000, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Progressive knowledge and experience in Windows and/or Linux server administration

Hands-on experience with core AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, Lambda)

Experience with Infrastructure, Code (IaC) tools (CloudFormation, Terraform)

Strong understanding of networking concepts

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Strong communication and collaboration skills   

Experience with security monitoring tools and best practices

 

 

Additional Considerations

 

AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).

Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).

Experience with compliance standards (SEC530, NIST, IRS 1075, etc.)
