Job DutiesThe Research Assistant supports the work of the Commission's research and training staff. Tasks assigned to this position include:
- Collecting and assembling data for select projects,
- Organizing training material, researching case details from court records, and
- Performing data entry tasks, as needed.
Duties include:
- Reviewing the data,
- Searching for and filling in missing information using other criminal justice data systems,
- Identifying and correcting errors,
- Exploring outliers in the data, keying data, and
- Converting scanned Guidelines into data files using SWIFT (Sentencing Worksheets and Interactive File Transfer system).
- Also, this person will assist the training staff in assembling training material and traveling as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
An undergraduate degree in a social science discipline, computer science, or statistics is required. A candidate for this position should have an interest in empirical research in the field of criminal justice. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a focus on accuracy. The most competitive candidates will have a general knowledge of descriptive statistics. Prior experience working with large databases and drawing data from multiple data sources is beneficial.
Additional Considerations
Experience with SWIFT (Sentencing Worksheets and Interactive File Transfer) system or experience using at least one statistical software package (SPSS, Stata, or SAS) is strongly preferred.
This is an in-person position with no remote work possibility.
