Job Duties:

This position involves providing environmental and grounds maintenance, which includes planting and pruning trees, shrubs, and flowers; mowing and weed eating; assisting with landscaping duties; and utilizing horticultural practices to prevent disease and damage to trees, flowers, turf, and ornamentals. Responsibilities also include performing manual labor tasks such as planting grass, mulching, and shearing; evaluating work order requests; participating in seasonal activities; ensuring that necessary equipment is operational; seeking repairs when needed; and keeping tools and vehicles available to assist employees in their assigned duties. Additionally, the role requires operating various equipment, including trucks up to 2 tons, tractors, forklifts, mowers, and a range of hand and power tools, such as chainsaws, clippers, gas and string trimmers, and leaf blowers. This position is considered essential personnel for inclement weather and snow removal; responsibilities include operating mowers and tractors equipped with blades, snow blowers, shovels, and salt spreaders. The position also requires assisting the Grounds Department with various tasks, including moving surplus furniture, cleaning up trash, repairing and maintaining equipment in the grounds shop, troubleshooting problems, and responding to emergencies.

This is a part-time wage position, and hours may vary depending on agency needs. Wage employees are limited to working 1,500 hours per year, which is calculated as the 365 days beginning on the wage employee's first day of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

Knowledge of all aspects of grounds care and maintenance.

Knowledge of best practices in horticulture.

Abilities:

Ability to communicate and work with the public and co-workers.

Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record is required for this position.
