Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Division of Marketing and Development (DMD) is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Administrative Assistant for the Director of the Office of Agriculture and Forestry Development (OAFD) and the DMD Special Projects Manager. Duties include tracking expenses for the OAFD team staff and management; scheduling appointments and making travel arrangements; maintaining filing systems; reviewing and processing documents such as travel requests, itineraries, grant applications, reimbursement requests, purchasing, and vouchers/requisitions; and maintaining office supplies and equipment, and distribution of information to commodity boards. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth’s telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of office administration and financial practices and procedures to include experience with accounts payable. Demonstrated possession of having excellent oral and written communication skills; sound grammar, punctuation, spelling, proofreading, and editing skills; and excellent interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines; follow oral and written instructions; maintain confidential information; and to draft and compose clear concise correspondence and reports. Proficiency using the full MS Office Suite with specific experience using Excel and financial software applications. H.S. Diploma/GED required.

Additional Considerations

A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered along with general knowledge of state, local or federal government policies and procedures related to procurement, travel regulations, budgets, and reporting.
