Job Duties

The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Circuit Court Financial Analyst within the Department of Judicial Services (DJS). The Circuit Court Financial Analyst is responsible for providing system development, installation, and technical assistance services to circuit courts in Virginia for the Financial Accounting System (FAS) and related hardware/software products, providing daily telephone and email support to the circuit courts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities –
The Circuit Financial Analyst, an exempt position within the Department of Judicial Services (DJS), plays a vital role in court administration by providing continuing support, promoting uniform policies and procedures, and developing and maintaining systems to improve access to justice in Virginia's Circuit courts. The Financial Analyst’s primary responsibilities include, but not limited to,

  • Providing system development and testing
  • Offering technical assistance to clerks and judges
  • Collaborating on the development of best practices for financial processing
  • Assist courts with complex financial issues, to include bank statement reconciliation
  • Maintaining systems documentation
  • Providing training in classroom and virtual settings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience with the Virginia circuit courts
  • Proficiency in clerk’s office financial procedures and accounting principles
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Excellent written communication and presentation abilities
  • Experience in course development, training delivery, and the preparation of training and operations manuals
  • Knowledge of court case, records, and financial management practices and related automated systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, accounting software and general PC applications

The most competitive applicants will demonstrate:

  • A minimum of three (3) years direct experience as a bookkeeper in a Virginia circuit court
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex financial issues efficiently
  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels of the Judiciary and with external governmental agencies, including (but not limited to):
    • Auditor of Public Accounts
    • Department of Accounts
    • Department of Taxation
    • State Compensation Board

This position requires occasional travel throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Additional Considerations

Position requires residency in the Commonwealth of Virginia and there would be occasional travel throughout the state.

This position is based in Richmond, Virginia. Remote work may be considered based on qualifications, job responsibilities, and organizational needs. Approval of any remote or hybrid schedule is at the discretion of the Office of the Executive Secretary.
