Job Duties

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

Hiram Davis Medical Center is looking for a RN Shift Supervisor to supervise staff engaged in direct nursing care and implementation of treatment plans for multiple patient areas on assigned shift.

Duties include:
Serve as the shift supervisor for all nursing services facility-wide
Assist the Assistant Chief Nurse Executive in the shift management of the department, including the administration, organization, supervision and evaluation of all activities and patient care.
Oversee and supervise the based operations of the unit(s) in the absence of the Unit Manager(s).
Assists in quality assurance activities and assures compliance with Agency, Departmental and accrediting Agencies policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
This position will be required to work Rotating shifts to include Evenings and Weekends

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities to Perform the Job:
Considerable knowledge of professional nursing, supervising and administrative principles and practices
Basic knowledge of budgeting and scheduling
Knowledge of legal requirements affecting nursing practices.
Considerable skill in advanced nursing procedures specifically in a med-surgical, psychiatric or geriatric field.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, to evaluate program and staff performance, to develop standards of care and operational procedures, to perform patient assessment, to troubleshoot problems and to establish priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED:
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in State of Virginia.
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing coupled with demonstrated course work in continuing education.
Considerable experience in nursing at the professional level coupled with experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and/or nursing care of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
Proven experience in supervision and administration.
