Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Trades Manager I Director to manage, organize, and plan for the overall delivery of support services in the areas of Physical Plant Services (PPS), Transportation, Laundry and Environmental Services for Western State Hospital (WSH). This Position will ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State laws as well as all applicable building and regulatory codes/requirements and will also oversee capital/maintenance reserve projects either through design, quality, oversight, budget management and procurement.

The Trades Manager - Director will ensure the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met; evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation; performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur; utilize work order system as a "productivity" tool to ensure that staff effectiveness and efficiencies are achieved and that work orders are appropriately completed; ensure related standards of Environment of Care (TJC) are organized/documented so that standards are met for both facilities, and act as co-responsible party with Risk Manager for meeting Life Safety Chapter requirements for WSH; ensure that purchasing is in compliance with Commonwealth policies and procedures; and coordinate projects with Central Office A&E or others as required.

Minimum Qualifications

- High school graduate or equivalent
- Extensive experience in building and grounds work
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Trades License Cards/Applies mastery of skills in area(s) of specialization as demonstrated by; Experience as a Journeyman, Military Equivalence, or extensive Experience (Master Tradesman eligibility requirement)
- Experience in computer, purchasing procedures, and inventory control programs
- Experience required in plant/property management of a large complement of staff with program management including preventive maintenance and energy delivery systems.
- Incumbent should also be experienced with A&E and be able to read and interpret drawings as well as design in CAD.
- Incumbent must be able to utilize automated PPS systems and be familiar with the PC including Office products as well as having good mathematical and communication skills.
