Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is dedicated to providing engaging, historically accurate resources to support student learning. Along with programming that takes place at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, there are several opportunities for students to explore early Virginia and United States history virtually and through classroom outreach.

Department Overview

The School Programs team delivers interactive, conversation-based programming to students through onsite, virtual, and in-classroom programs to 200,000 students a year. Learning Facilitators are responsible for working with students to create their learning experiences based on content and current educational methodology. In addition to working with students, Learning Facilitators have the opportunity to engage with the general visitors through community days and stations, and may be invited to join program development teams. Job Duties

Learning Facilitators are responsible for presenting accurate, engaging education tours and programs in support of the mission and strategic goals of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. Learning Facilitators are core wage staff (1250 hours annually), responsible for providing quality programming for students of all ages and specific program development. Candidates must have the ability to work well independently and collaboratively with a small team. Due to the nature of this position, they also should be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Division of work as follows:

  • Facilitates dialogue that encourages understanding and growth of student visitors. Teaches a variety of educational on-site programs, including tours, stationed activity, for a wide variety of ages (80%)
  • Assists in the research and development of programs and educational materials. (15%) 
  • Performs other duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of or interest in  history and how it relates to today
  • Knowledge of or interest in facilitating interactive and conversation-based student programming
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Enjoys working with a diverse population of adults and children
  • Ability to learn and apply new information in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Knowledge of or interest in program development

Additional Considerations

Prior experience working in any type of educational environment may be helpful
