About the Agency:

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs is a Commonwealth of Virginia state agency that provides professional and responsive support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Directorate of Public Works is responsible for the operation and maintenance of real property at the Maneuver Training Center, Fort Pickett and State Military Reservation (SMR).

This position is responsible for maintaining the state equipment fleet of the Directorate of Public Work’s, consisting of heavy mobile, light commercial, farm, landscape and automotive equipment to ensure it remains serviced and operational.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the operation of components, assemblies and systems of a wide variety of heavy mobile equipment;

Knowledge of the operation of components, assemblies, and systems of a wide variety of automotive, light commercial, farming vehicles and landscape equipment;

Skilled in operating all types of automotive, light commercial, farm vehicles and landscape equipment;

Ability to use test equipment and tools common to trade;

Ability to remove and tear down major components and assemblies and rebuild, adjust, reinstall, and align components;

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions;

Basic computer skills are required;

Knowledge and training in OSHA regulations and work safety practices;

Automotive experience;

Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL);

Must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (0 point or positive point balance);

Ability to lift and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, wearing protective clothing/equipment while exposed to a wide variety of weather and work area elements (including drafts, noise and fumes, etc.).

Additional Considerations

ASE certification(s) in an automotive field is preferred.

Must have or obtain a Virginia Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection certification within one (1) year of hire.

Must have or obtain an ASE Refrigerant, recovery, and recycling certification within one (1) year of hire.
