Job Duties

Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute has an exciting new opportunity. We are seeking an experienced Security Supervisor to provide supervision to our Day Shift Team.

The incumbent will organize and manage the security department day shift to ensure that the hospital is a safe and secure environment for clients, staff, and visitors. May provide coverage 24 hours daily via duty shifts. Provides first response to facility emergencies. Stabilize emergency scenes pending the arrival of law enforcement, fire/rescue, call back maintenance staff, and/or call in 24-hour vendors (alarm technicians, plumbers, etc.). Provide protection of property assets, fire prevention and performance of criminal pre-employment background checks. Member of NVMHI Safety Officer Network and Public Directors Team; Provides input into revising agency policies related to hazardous materials, waste management, fire prevention and interim life safety measures, safety management and security management planning.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Training related to protective services/security.

A valid driver’s license required.

Significant experience supervising and managing personnel, preferably in security setting experience; ability to train others.

Considerable knowledge of safety management, OSHA standards, building codes, state fire codes, regulatory agency standards and life safety codes and budgetary exp.

Comprehensive knowledge of security policies, procedures and guidelines.

Considerable experience as a security guard, police officer, or military police officer required.

Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts satisfactorily within a potentially hostile environment, to conduct detailed security analyses and prescribe appropriate action to enhance security operations, to plan and manage the work of staff, to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Must be willing to work off-hours, weekends and holiday shifts; must be willing to be called out in emergency situations.

Ability to use Computerized equipment such as Microsoft products, computerized fingerprint equipment.

Additional Considerations

Prefer knowledge and experience with Evidence Based Practices.

Effective experience dealing with diverse populations or groups including mental health and intellectual disabilities preferred.
