Job Duties
The Science Museum of Virginia is looking for a highly organized, quality focused, energetic individual to fill the position of part time Administrative Assistant.
Working closely with the Museum’s Administrative Supervisor, you’ll provide essential support across departments—with a focus on Administration and Procurement. From coordinating travel and maintaining organized files to managing the agency director’s calendar, overseeing mail room operations, processing check requests, and answering phones—your role will help keep the museum running smoothly behind the scenes.

Please note that this is a part-time position and hours will vary each week based on operations but no more than up to 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply at https://jobs.virginia.gov
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess strong proficiency in computer-based office programs, including the Google Suite, Microsoft Office, calendar software, and email platforms. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills including knowledge of filing systems, professional telephone etiquette, interpersonal communication, and effective time management. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential, along with proven administrative experience. The candidate should be capable of exercising sound judgment in support of agency goals and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Additionally, the ability to quickly learn and adapt to various business software applications, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively is required.
Additional Considerations
Project management skills a plus. Familiarity with procurement procedures is highly desirable.
