For more than three decades, the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation, one synonymous with providing fun, entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity. Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K-12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming, which are regulated by the Lottery, benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Lottery is currently seeking an experienced Change Control and QA Analyst to join our Information Technology Services Department. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting quality assurance and functionality testing of both internal and external applications, including online platforms and mobile solutions across various devices. Reporting directly to the Change Control Manager, this role requires close collaboration with development teams and project groups to identify, document, and address software issues. Additionally, the analyst will support system enhancements to ensure they align with the Virginia Lottery’s strategic objectives.
In addition, this role supports Quality Assurance by planning, executing, and documenting software testing activities across multiple projects. The analyst ensures compliance with QA best practices and industry standards, maintaining detailed records of test plans, results, and software issues.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Testing, integrating, deploying, and scheduling releases for digital products.
• Manage WCMS (Web Content Management System) for VA Lottery websites, enterprise applications, and third-party systems.
• Run load tests, oversee production environment modifications, and uphold industry standards for performance and security.
• Review turnover documentation, guide test specifications, manage application releases and coordinate system validation with teams and vendors.
• Design and refine automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub to streamline deployments and reduce manual work.
• Develop and execute QA plans, assess risk, validate business requirements, perform regression and data audits, track defects, process change requests, and certify external QA deliverables.
Note - This position requires in-office work three days per week including Tuesday and Wednesday.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college with major studies in Information Technologies or a related field.
• 4-7 years working experience in an IT related role.
• Skilled in SDLC, ALM (Application Lifecycle Management), change/testing protocols, automation, SQL/database management, and deployment tools.
• Strong background in change control testing methods, system functionality, and application turnover procedures.
• Experience managing test environments, security, configuration, and documentation.
• Capable of creating installation, back-out, and recovery plans.
• Proficient in validating test results, maintaining operational integrity post-deployment, and error recovery with operations or vendors.
• Knowledgeable in disaster recovery, contingency planning, and troubleshooting.
• Deep understanding of units, integration, system, and UAT testing.
• Proficient at developing, executing, and documenting test scripts and cases.
• Experienced in manual testing, defect tracking, and translating business needs into technical specifications.
• Familiar with QA best practices, software change policies, and high-integrity environments.
• Proficient with MS Office and data tools, highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
