Job Duties

• Conducts regular life safety inspections across campus facilities.
• Monitors and enforces compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), OSHA, state fire codes, and university policies.
• Identifies hazards, recommends corrective actions, and follows up on mitigation.
• Maintains documentation of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and follow ups
• Serves as a liaison with local fire departments, code enforcement agencies, and other authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
• Reviews construction and renovation plans for compliance with fire codes and make recommendations
• Assists with scope development for solicitation of contracted services to provide inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of all life safety systems including detection, alarm, suppression, fire dampers and fire doors
• Coordinates timely inspection, testing, maintenance and repairs of life safety systems including detection, alarm, and suppression systems, fire dampers and fire doors through in-house resources and contracted services
• Maintains detailed records and generates compliance reports.
• Monitors and ensures operational readiness of Life Safety Systems
• Ensures certification of life safety systems
• Plans and coordinates campus wide fire drills and evacuation exercises
• Investigates fire incidents and alarms to determine causes, recommends corrective actions and implements preventive strategies.
• Serves as resource and safety advisor during fire-related emergencies or drills.
• Provide fire safety training to students, staff, and faculty, including proper use of alarm and suppression systems and evacuation protocols.
• Participate in emergency response planning and serve on relevant campus safety committees.
• Participate in institutional safety audits and risk management programs.
• Contribute to emergency preparedness planning, including tabletop exercises and simulations.
• Issues Hot Works Permits for contractors using open flames during repairs and construction
• Prepares for and participates in audits and inspections from outside agencies



Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of NFPA codes, state and local fire safety regulations, fire suppression systems, and emergency evacuation protocols.

Skills in Hazard assessment, code interpretation, training delivery, report writing, incident investigation, and cross-functional coordination.

Abilities to think critically, work independently, collaborate with multiple stakeholders, respond to emergencies, and apply regulatory knowledge to diverse facility types.
