Job Duties
The Assistant Director of Creative Marketing & Brand Strategy is responsible for strengthening and promoting the VMI brand through strategic marketing initiatives. This position leads the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing plans aimed at increasing VMI’s visibility and
engagement both locally and nationally. The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring brand consistency by managing a detailed brand guide, overseeing creative asset production, and supporting the marketing needs of various departments across the Institute. This role works collaboratively with
admissions for recruitment efforts and manages the trademark licensing program, all while ensuring that VMI’s brand standards are upheld across communications and promotional materials. This position reports directly to the Director of Communications and Marketing.
Key responsibilities are:
• Assist with the development and execution of annual marketing and advertising plans and campaigns to increase awareness of the VMI brand locally and nationally.
o Manage marketing / advertising budget to achieve marketing goals and objectives.
o Oversee the creation and facilitation of creative used for brand promotion purposes.
o Support the tracking and measuring of marketing efforts for annual marketing and recruitment strategies and campaigns.
• Collaborate with recruitment marketing efforts.
• Manage and expand the Institute’s trademark licensing program in accordance with General Order 42.
o Develop and maintain print and online branding guides for internal and external entities.
o Oversee all VMI branding across post, online, in print, and used for promotional assets.
o Manages internal and external trademark requests.
o Educate offices and departments across post on VMI brand standards and ensure internal and external materials are following current brand standards.
• Work with offices and departments across post to support and facilitate their marketing needs for marketing collateral – print, online, promotional products, displays/banners, etc., and coordinate the production of such materials when needed.
o Collaboration with graphic designers and vendors when necessary and the Digital Communications team as appropriate for changes to VMI.edu.
o Support events across post as necessary for marketing and promotional needs.
• Collaborate in the creation of graphics for the Institute’s social media presences in accordance with General Order 71.
• Supervise the creative team, consisting of the Graphics and Publications Manager and the Graphic Designer, ensuring all content produced adheres to brand guidelines.
• Support events, such as graduation and commissioning, parades, guest speakers, legislative reception, and others to ensure they reflect the richness of the VMI brand.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and Marketing.
Minimum Qualifications
• Degree in marketing or related field and some experience in a marketing role in a professional environment.
Additional Considerations
• Work collaboratively with other elements of the office and of the Institute, as well as vendors.
• Four or more years’ experience in a marketing role in a professional environment.
• Experience in higher education preferred.
• A self-starter with excellent organizational skills, capacity to manage a heavy workload and balance competing
priorities, flexibility, and strong project management skills.
• Excellent skills with standard Microsoft Office applications, preferably in a Mac environment. Knowledge of, though not mastery of, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
