Job Duties
To provide evidence based and high-quality nursing leadership by managing and providing direction for the daily operations of the nursing department. Assures the appropriate integration across units, shifts and among multiple departments to assure the quality of nursing care, the development and achievement of goals and the efficient and effective use of resources. Provides direct supervision of the nursing supervisors. Works closely with the CNO to implement and manage policies and procedures. Provide education/training for nursing department. Coordinates recruitment and retention activities in collaboration with the Human Resource Department.
Minimum Qualifications
State of Virginia Registered Nurse license or eligible.
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of professional nursing, psychiatric nursing, quality improvement, management, and leadership. Ability to apply the requisite knowledge in daily operations. Ability to work effectively with all levels of nursing and hospital personnel. Strong oral and written communication skills and strong analytic skills required. Ability to prepare written reports. Demonstrated leadership ability. Demonstrated ability to build effective teams, establish collaborative peer relationships, problem solve effectively, maintain relationships characterized by integrity and trust. Demonstrated ability to manage change, have operating oversight, and confront/develop direct reports and the ability to take managerial action as required. Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data and to summarize findings in ways that support decision-making. Ability to manage vision and purpose through effective strategic thinking, planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services. Demonstrates competency as defined on Competency Assessment.
