Job Duties

The Library of Virginia, the leading source of information on Virginia’s history, government and people, is seeking a part-time Multimedia Content Specialist to join its Marketing and Communications Division. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the multimedia content specialist will conceptualize and produce video content to amplify social media engagement and support broader communications efforts.

Core responsibilities:
• Plan, shoot and edit video content for social media platforms and the website
• Edit video recordings of Library events
• Capture b-roll footage of Library activities
• Contribute to the development of the annual Social Media Plan
• Ensure videos meet accessibility standards
• Work with marketing and communications staff to produce animated graphics to support social media efforts
• Collaborate with Library staff from various divisions to brainstorm video content ideas that amplify engagement
• Organize and archive multimedia content for easy retrieval and repurposing
• Help maintain a production calendar to track deliverables
• Travel as needed to capture footage of Library events in the community

Minimum Qualifications

• Significant experience in video creation (portfolio or reels samples required)
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Strong proficiency with editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Express, After Effects, etc.)
• Strong understanding of social media strategy and platform trends
• Demonstrated success in use of video content for increasing a company or organization’s social media engagement
• Excellent storytelling instincts with an eye for framing and pacing
• Ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Considerations

• Photography skills
• Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
• Previous experience working in state government
