Job Duties

The GDC Payments Deputy Clerk (grade 8) within the Fairfax County General District Court’s Payment team provides the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of the day-to-day operations of an urban court and the Virginia judicial process. The candidate must be committed to providing excellent customer service to a diverse population, enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-volume office with tight deadlines, and thrive in a results-oriented, teamwork environment.

All employees receive a 15% county salary supplement in addition to the state salary.

The Deputy Clerk is responsible for a wide range of clerical responsibilities including, but not limited to, accepting payments on prepaid and unpaid cases; issuing DC-30 reinstatement forms; updating case information in the case management and financial systems; scanning documents in the imaging system; completing amended abstracts for the DMV; processing and sorting mail; receipting case papers and preparing daily deposits. The clerk will also be responsible for processing garnishment payments; verifying and auditing fines and costs assessments; performing data entry; producing correspondence; answering phone inquiries; filing; archiving; and other duties as required. More than half of an employee’s time is spent serving the public at a counter window and/or over the phone.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Most competitive applicants will have some court, business, or office-related experience. Applicants must be detail-oriented, highly accurate, and organized. Should be excellent at multi-tasking and follow-up, as well as can learn new tasks quickly. Must be willing to assist the public courteously and efficiently and be a team player who assists others. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. A minimum data entry speed of 30 words per minute is required, and cashiering experience is highly desirable. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
