Job Duties
Virginia State University (VSU), a public and comprehensive 1890 Land Grant institution and historically black college/university (HBCU) founded in 1882, is seeking qualified applicants for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters for the College of Agriculture. Instructional (Teaching/Research) faculty's primary responsibilities require them to teach up to 15 credit hours per semester in-person and/or online (both synchronous and asynchronous). VSU Faculty must provide and engage students during regular office hours to meet and promote student engagement and success. At VSU, where Greater Happens Here, we offer 36 undergraduate, 17 graduate, and 2 doctoral degree programs and 8 certificate programs across six academic colleges.)
Extension/Agricultural Research faculty engages the public and university through scholarly grant-funded research programs/ projects, public service to the community, and outreach efforts to support and meet the needs of the Commonwealth of Virginia as outlined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Non-Tenure Track appointments are limited to a one-year contract and will be considered for additional appointments upon review and need of the university and academic disciplines. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in the specific Teaching field or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the teaching field and/or relevant industry experience required;
Proficiency to teach courses in the following areas:
Agriculture
Family & Consumer Science
Textiles
Apparel
Dietetics
Hospitality Management
Agriculture Research
Must demonstrate effective and engaging teaching skills.
The incumbent should have received extensive training and have hands-on experience in applied and basic research, experimental design and implementation, laboratory experiments and field trials, data collection and statistical analysis, effective communication skills in both verbal and written English.
Demonstrated ability to publish a plus.
Must have the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student and faculty population.
Proficiency and willingness to adapt new and emerging pedagogies in both a formal and non-formal classroom.
*Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.
Additional Considerations
PhD preferred.
Prior teaching/research/extension experience in a higher education environment highly preferred.
Certification specific to teaching/ research/extension highly preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Banner/Blackboard) with ability to use technology to enhance teaching and educational experience.
Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
