The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.

The State Parks Office of Community Engagement and Volunteerism is accepting applications for a Wage Administrative Specialist.

This position will assist with the efficient implementation of the administrative functions for the workgroup. This includes but is not limited to procurement in eVA for the office, including the procurement of apparel and gear needed for the Camp Host, Volunteer, and Youth Conservation Corps programs, assistance with mailing, inventory, and office organization, providing general correspondence for the section, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Procures needed gear in eVA for the office and assists with mail and package receiving.
  • Maintains the office storage area, as well as an inventory of ordered supplies for YCC, Camp Host, and Volunteer Programs.
    Completes correspondence for internal park staff customer service needs, and as needed, serves as a liaison to volunteers and Friends Groups of state parks.
  • Assists with the coordination of training events and meetings (examples –printing/ preparing materials, creating lodging lists, coordinating support functions).
  • Assists with the administration of Volunteer of the Year awards.
  • Supports the hiring process for Youth Conservation Corps members and leaders.
  • Oversees the maintenance, cleaning, inspections, and overall care for the OCEV fleet minivan.
  • Maintains a Citizen Support Organization (CSO) Directory and collects annual reports from Friends Groups.
  • Helps to coordinate office team building days and off-site logistics.
  • Takes notes during all-staff meetings and other significant meetings.
  • Assists with developing template travel pre-approval forms and vouchers (TERVs).
  • Assists with special events and/or disaster relief as needed.
  • Attends training events, recruitment events, volunteer appreciation events, and site visits to parks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of computer operation and Microsoft Office 365 software, including Word, Excel, Forms, PowerPoint, and Teams - plus Outlook, Calendars, and OneDrive applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Administrative support experience.
  • Experience managing financial documents, including receipts and invoices, and communicating with vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers, community partners, and/or non-profit organizations.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.

Additional Considerations

  • Previous experience using the eVA procurement system for a state agency and/or overseeing procurement for a private company.
  • Previous experience in inventory management.

Wage positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
