Job Duties
To promote public safety and reduce recidivism by preparing offenders for success through a continuum of services and supervision, in collaboration with state and local partners, from the time the inmate's entry into prison through their transition and reintegration into the community.
Develop and maintain relationships with employers and community organizations to develop job opportunities and supported continued employment for inmates. Market the skill sets of inmates from the welding program. Coordinate daily activities such as soliciting employer interest and involvement in the employment of inmates, orienting inmates to the services provided, posting job opportunities and tracking placement data. Arranging the direct placement of inmates matching the job skills with applicant qualifications. Develop a formalized process for employers to connect with skilled workers. Assist in the coordination of job/resource fairs at low level correctional sites. Coordinate community employer forums state-wide marketing employment incentives, initiatives and the Career Employment Reentry program. This position provides services to all welding program sites to include State Farm WC, Coffeewood, Dillwyn, Appalachian CCAP, Nottoway WC, Deerfield WC and Brunswick CCAP.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in coaching others on employment, goal setting and planning. Experience working with individuals having barriers to employment. Experience using evidence-based cognitive-behavioral, social learning, cognitive restructuring and/or other behavioral change approaches with clients or students. Experience developing marketing materials and managing project development and implementation. Knowledge of the welding industry and labor market trends. Demonstrated skill in making effective presentations to diverse audiences, including classroom participants, community agencies, other government agencies, and employers. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to develop partnerships between service agencies, employers, and inmates. Demonstrated skill in developing partnerships between service agencies and employers.
Additional Considerations
Working experience as workforce development professional providing job development and placement services to clients. Experience administering and interpreting formal and information assessments of career interest, aptitude and values. Professional certification in a relevant career counseling discipline or human services field. Must possess or be eligible to apply for Global Career Development Facilitator credential issued by the Center for Credentialing and Education (see:www.cdf-global.org) Prefer prior work experience in marketing, training and project management.
