The Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) promotes accessible communication so that persons who are Deaf and hard of hearing may fully participate in programs, services, and opportunities throughout the Commonwealth.
Job Duties:
VDDHH is seeking a Deaf Mentor Coordinator to provide families with deaf children statewide services working with Deaf adults (Deaf Mentor) on outcomes including literacy, language, cognitive development, life skills, and deaf identity. The purpose of the position is to recruit, screen, train, monitor and support Deaf Mentors' service delivery performance with supporting documentation as well as recruit and support families.
Completes duties and/or special projects as needed, assigned or directed by supervisor.
The position shall perform all duties in a positive and professional manner, while helping to advance the mission and vision of VDDHH.
During the probationary period:
- Completion of SKI-HI Deaf Mentor 3-day training is required.
- Completion of Infant & Toddler of Virginia early intervention training modules is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Professional experience must be in planning, administering, developing, or delivering programs for deaf, hard of hearing and/or deafblind individuals, preferably in early childhood development, early intervention, language acquisition or deaf education fields.
- American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) certification at Level 3.5 or SLPI: Advanced Plus or equivalent is required for the position.
- Experience with program development, management, and administration in a human services environment including experience with establishing, understanding and implementing policies and procedures.
Additional Considerations
- Monitoring of contractor performance experience.
- Must be willing to travel statewide and work evenings and weekends,
