Job Duties

The Department of Labor and Industry’s Verona Field Office is currently seeking an Administrative and Office Specialist III / Program Support Technician with exceptional customer service and communication skills. This critical position is the sole support position for the agency’s Verona Field Office. The incumbent of this position is the first point of contact for employers and members of the general public and serves a critical role in listening to complainants and referring them to the appropriate source to address their concerns.

The position also provides critical support to the DOLI professional staff assigned to the office, supporting Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH), Labor Law, Consultation Programs, and the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). In addition, it serves as a liaison with Headquarters Offices staff to collect information for their needs.

Examples of duties of the incumbent will be assisting callers/visitors over the phone and in person, all aspects of administering and scheduling maintenance of pool vehicles, scheduling building maintenance, maintaining office equipment, tracking and ordering office supplies, generating weekly and monthly accounting and VOSH reports, administrating phone and voice mail system, preparing, sorting and distributing agency mail, ensuring confidential record keeping and data entry as well as providing administrative support to employees and agency programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience working in a front-line administrative assistant role in an office setting; involving customer service to the general public while performing various receptionist, administrative, and program support tasks.
• Experience and/or training in computer applications such as databases and Microsoft Office programs.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the experience to work collaboratively with users at all levels of the organization.
• Considerable organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience to work independently and as a team member with minimal supervision.

Additional Considerations

• Bilingual fluency speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

Special Requirements:
• Must be able to work public service hours in the office M-F, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and down inclines, occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds, etc.
• The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal background investigation, complete, and must successfully serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an original hire or re-employment.

Special Instructions:
The maximum salary for this position is $50,768 annually, plus the State’s benefits package. Please note, the agency will not entertain salary negotiations for this position.
