Hiring Range: Starting salary: $112,000 (commensurate with experience), with an additional $10,000 for licensed individuals. If not currently licensed, the $10,000 adjustment will be added upon obtaining licensure

Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Forensic Evaluator to provide forensic assessments (Competency to Stand Trial, Mental State at the Time of the Offense, Commissioner-Appointed NGRI Temporary Custody and Second Opinion Evaluations, etc.) for defendants and NGRI acquittees ordered to inpatient treatment at a state facility. An array of forensic and psychological assessments and services will be provided to include general psychological assessments, tests of malingering/feigning, psychological screenings, treatment team consultation, consultation to executive staff regarding forensic processes and policies, and program development for pretrial defendants. Court testimony and forensic administrative support provided as needed.

The Forensic Evaluator will also serve as expert witness when subpoenaed; work closely with the Forensic Coordinators, Psychology Director, Forensic General Administrative Coordinator, Forensic Specialist, WSH admissions office, treatment teams, and courts to maintain and monitor the schedules of due dates of reports; provide supervision to and review of work products of Forensic Post-Doctoral Residents (e.g. CST, MSO evaluations); work closely with the Forensic Coordinators and Forensic General Administrative Coordinator to address issues as they develop; and Incorporate evidence based practices, expert guidelines, professional literature, and case law and statutes into forensic evaluations, consultations, and trainings.

Minimum Qualifications

- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program
- Licensed or license-eligible in Virginia as a Clinical Psychologist, with the ability to secure licensure within 12 months of hire.
- Must have completed (or be eligible to complete) the requisite forensic trainings through DBHDS/UVA ILPPP to be certified as a forensic evaluator in Virginia
- Demonstrated experience providing forensic evaluations
