Are you an energetic nurse looking to share your talents in the Public Health setting? The Warren County Health Department is a part of the Lord Fairfax Health District. This position will be based out of Warren County, primarily serving Warren, Page and Frederick-Winchester but may cover any office in the district as needed. This position will be responsible for communicable disease investigations and follow up, working clinics, completing long-term care screenings, as well as all general PHN duties. You would be an integral part of our team by exhibiting your nursing skills, being able to prioritize the workload, and by exhibiting excellent customer service skills. This full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:00am- 4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work providing community outreach events and or in home visits.

Independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. Participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. May supervise support staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing. Requires BLS certification. Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies
• Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities
• Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique
• Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public
• Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management
• May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required
• Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR

Additional Considerations

• Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
