At the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, we work to make connections between the past and future. In the School Programs Team, our focus in on K12 audiences visiting on field trips, going to classrooms for outreach programs, or meeting with them in a virtual classroom. We facilitate engaging programs and activities stations for the student audience. Our goals are to engage with students through dialogue and critical thinking, creating avenues for growth in historical thinking skills and empathy.

Job Duties

Learning Interns are responsible for presenting accurate, engaging education tours and programs in support of the mission and strategic goals of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. School Programs Interns are core staff (1000 hours annually), responsible for providing quality programming for students of all ages. Interns will be responsible for specific program development designed to build skills and gain an introduction into the field of museum education.

This is a 12 month appointment from time of hire specifically designed for post-secondary students such as those enrolled in technical, vocational, community college, college or university institutions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interest in 17th/18th century history and how it relates to today
• Knowledge of or interest in current educational methodologies
• Excellent customer service skills
• Enjoys working with a diverse population of adults and children
• Ability to learn and apply new information in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Knowledge of or interest in program development

Additional Considerations

Prior experience working with the K-12 audience.
