Job Duties

The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science (HPEEX) within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science (F0007) position. We seek candidates that have expertise in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics as well as clinical experience in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, and or Exercise Physiologist. Minimum Qualifications

  1.  A Ph.D. (ABD considered) in a related field such as: Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Human Movement Sciences, or Rehabilitative Sciences from an accredited program is necessary.
  2. Demonstrate expertise in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics.
  3. Considerable knowledge and 1-3 years of independent clinical practice in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, and or Exercise Physiologist.

Additional Considerations

  1. Preference will be given to candidates that are licensed and/or certified professionals in rehabilitation settings.
  2. Candidates that possess Registered Kinesiotherapist (RKT) certification and knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and procedures are highly preferred.
  3.  Candidates experienced with short-term and long-term rehabilitative exercise programs for people transitioning from hospital- based treatment are preferred also.
  4. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching courses related to Human Movement and a demonstrated ability for effective verbal and written communication to a diverse student-body audience.
  5. A record of published research in the field of Kinesiology, Rehabilitative, and/or Human Movement Sciences is preferred as well.
