Job Duties
Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. Established in 1870, CSH holds the distinction of being the first psychiatric hospital in the nation dedicated to the treatment of African Americans. We have a long and proud history of serving the citizens of the Commonwealth, and we remain committed to providing excellence in mental health care.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Successfully Perform the Job:
- Experience with grounds/landscaping work and associated safety practices.
- Experience with general building maintenance and associated safety practices.
- Experience of the maintenance of vehicles and associated safety practices.
- Knowledge of a State driving laws and the use of road maps to transport patients in a safe
and timely manner.
- Ability to work various shifts during emergencies and/or agency needs.
- Ability to work using a team approach.
- Ability to follow State policies and procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking,
bending, climbing ladders, and scaffolding of all types.
- Ability to work with various chemicals and during all weather conditions.
**This position is subject to mandatory overtime for all types of storm response, including ice and snow pretreatment and removal for CSH.**
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Class B CDL.
- Experience with grounds/landscaping work and associated safety practices.
- Experience with general building maintenance and associated safety practices.
- Experience in routine vehicle maintenance.
Additional Considerations
Preferred:
- Experience in the operation of passenger buses and vans.
- Experience with the operation of small power equipment and the mechanical ability to
perform preventative and general maintenance on this equipment.
