VIB Is seeking a Store Manager - Norfolk to be responsible for the implementation of the goals and objectives of VIB by promoting efficiency of supply store operations.


The incumbent will perform the following:

  • This position reports directly to the Regional Manager.
  • This position is responsible for supervision, staffing, planning, inventory management, promotion of stores, and operational efficiency of the location. 
  • Empowers blind and visually impaired individuals in achieving their maximum level of gainful employment and career development. 
  • Provide excellent customer service and retail opportunities.

Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by the supervisor.

Employees hired in these positions will follow the federal holiday schedule and their typical schedule will be Monday - Friday days. However, these positions require the flexibility to work off hours when the Navy requires deliveries outside of our normal work hours. That could include a short period of time over the weekend or on a holiday.

Minimum Qualifications:

The idea candidate will have:

Knowledge/Experience:


• Experience in store set up and maintenance.
• Experience building and maintaining vendor relationships.
• Experience in supervising and training employees.
• Must provide a clean driving record from DMV
• Strong retail management and operations experience.
• Supervisory experience
• Customer service experience

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Ability to and use time effectively and efficiently. 
  • Ability to manage a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to interpret and apply AbilityOne, Federal and State policies. 
  • Abilities related to working in a retail environment to include customer service, inventory control, customer requirements, computer system operation and acceptable sources for replenishment. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, vendors, and agency personnel. 
  • Ability to work to increase sales at store while reducing operating expenses. 
  • Ability to use Google calendar to manage tasks and schedule. 
  • Skill in analyzing, problem solving and exercising good judgment in critical decision making. 
  • Good computer skills including Windows application such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Additional Considerations:

• Experience working in a military environment.

This position is exempt from the Virginia Personnel Act and is otherwise known as non-classified. Non-classified positions within the Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) are offered a competitive benefits package that includes an annuity-based retirement plan (separate from the Virginia Retirement System), leave, and holiday pay that is paid by VIB, as well as jointly paid benefits such as health and life insurance. Employees additionally may enroll in other employee paid supplemental plans.
